Electroforming Jewelry making has gone high tech with a new technique called Electroforming. The process allows designers the freedom to make bold, sculptured, three-dimensional jewelry without the heavy weight of conventionally produced items because electroformed jewelry is hollow. Earrings make up the bulk of all electrofomed jewelrybecause of its featherweight properties and obvious comfort to the wearer. The major drawback, however, is the higher price of electroformed jewelry. To make lasting jewelry with such bold looks and airy feeling requires high tech, expensive equipment and precision control. The labor cost of Electro-formed jewelry is higher than that of conventional casting but,the lower per gram weight frequently offsets the price increase to a certain extent. For the most part, comfort, not cost, is the main selling point. It is important, however, to check carefully for quality. Unfortunately, there are manufactures producing lower priced copycat designs that are distressingly different in terms of quality. Defects include low-gloss finishes with noticeable scratches and more fragile post assemblies. Source: Bellmans Jewelry News
